DeSantis promotes Polk judge to circuit court, names new county judge

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced appointments of two judges in Polk County.

DeSantis selected Kevin Kohl of Lake Wales to serve as a circuit judge in the 10th Judicial Circuit. He will occupy a new position created by the action of the Florida Legislature.

DeSantis appointed Kohl in 2021 as a county court judge for Polk County. Kohl previously served as an assistant state attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from Florida State University.

DeSantis’ office also announced the appointment of Jordan Wells of Bartow as a county judge for Polk County. She fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert Griffin in October.

Wells has served as a career attorney for Judge Robert Morris of Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal since 2009. Previously, she served as a staff attorney for the Second District Court of Appeal.

Wells earned both her bachelor’s degree and her law degree from Florida State University.
