A DeBary man provoked another man at a DeLand house party and then shot the person after the victim challenged him to a fight early Sunday, Nov. 9, police said in a Facebook post.
The victim was transported To Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment, DeLand police said in the social media message.

DeLand police said the shooting occurred around 2:58 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 600 block of North Kentucky Avenue.
The accused shooter, Dawson Gregory Summers, 23, and the victim knew each other, police said.
The victim was found at the scene with two gunshot wounds and Summers, who was also on the scene, was arrested, police said.
Summers was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday, Nov. 10, without bail.

“Detectives learned that the homeowner had been hosting a large party at the residence. Both the suspect and the victim were known to each other and had been consuming alcohol,” DeLand police said.
Police said that during the party Summers began provoking the victim.
“At one point, the victim challenged the suspect to a physical fight. The suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and after the two engaged in mutual combat, the suspect shot the victim twice,” DeLand police said.
Police interviewed multiple witnesses at the party, and the firearm used in the shooting was also recovered.
This shooting remains under investigation, police said.
