The Garden Club of Palm Beach has honored Palm Beach Daily News’ photojournalist Meghan McCarthy with a certificate of appreciation for her eye-catching shots, including her extensive coverage of the organization’s events.
“Anyone who happens to miss an event wishes they were there once they see Meghan’s photographic journalism,” said Garden Club member Alison Sieving a release announcing the awards.
Also during the club’s April 22 annual meeting and award ceremony, Garden Club member Joanie Van Der Grift was presented with the Garden Club of America’s Club Photography Award for her leadership of the club’s photography programming.
“When it comes to fostering creativity and a love of the visual arts, few people do it with as much passion and grace as Joanie,” photographer Adam Jacobs said in the release. “A tireless advocate for photography and visual learning, she consistently goes above and beyond to bring meaningful artistic experiences to our community.”
Garden Club member Christina Kramer’s artistic creations garnered her the Garden Club of America’s Club Botanical Arts Achievement Award.
Ginny Parker, town beautification chair for the Garden Club, was recognized with the Club Civic Improvement Award for her leadership in the organization’s beautification projects, including the recent renovation of the Royal Poinciana Way medians.
Members of the town’s Public Works Department received the club’s Civic Improvement Commendation for what the club described as “their commitment to the highest ideals of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.”
Mayor Danielle Moore described the department in the release as “quite literally, the backbone of our island community.”
The Preservation of Palm Beach also received high honors when it was awarded the Native Plant Conservation Award for the organization’s work in the conservation and educational outreach about the importance of native plants.
“Every day, they are on their hands and knees in the soil, or wading hip-deep in wetlands — patiently answering endless questions from visitors of all ages,” Garden Club member Beth Dowdle said in the release. “They host educational programs, inspire countless students and collaborate generously to advance their mission of conservation.”
Club President Lisa Cregan also honored club member and former president Sue Strickland with the organization’s President’s Award.
