Bradenton teen homicide victim identified as Manatee High School student

The victim of a homicide in Bradenton on Monday night, May 18, has been identified as Demetrius Lightfoot Jr., a 17-year-old Manatee High School student who was expected to graduate this week, according to police.

The Bradenton Police Department located a suspect in the case the following day and identified him as 16-year-old Santana Derion Davis. Probable cause exists to arrest Davis for manslaughter with a firearm, the BPD said in a press release.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on May 18, officers responded to a 911 call in the 700 block of 12th Ave. W., where they found Lightfoot dead outside a home. The circumstances surrounding the juvenile’s death continue to be investigated by the BPD and the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit. Police consider it to be an isolated incident.

Lightfoot’s name and age were released with permission from the family, the BPD said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jeff Beckley at jeff.beckley@bradentonpd.com or 941-932-9356.

The BPD notified the Manatee County School District about the homicide, and the district has resources available, including crisis counselors, to assist students affected by the loss of a classmate.
