Boca Raton man, 87, dies after moving vehicle causes him to fall in Wawa parking lot

An 87-year-old man died on Aug. 14 from injuries he sustained days earlier when he fell and hit his head after a vehicle knocked him to the ground in a suburban Lake Worth gas station parking lot.

Investigators say Edward Drumm of Boca Raton was involved in an incident shortly before 9:15 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Wawa station at Lantana Road and South Military Trail. According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, Drumm was a passenger in a Chevrolet SUV that pulled into the parking lot and stopped.

He exited the vehicle and leaned against the passenger side. As he stood, the SUV’s driver began to accelerate forward, causing Drumm to lose his balance and fall to the pavement. Paramedics responded and treated him on scene, then took him to Delray Medical Center.

The sheriff’s report identified the SUV driver as a 33-year-old Lake Worth Beach man and indicated that he was related to Drumm. The crash report did not indicate whether any charges or citations are pending.
