Asante Samuel Sr. rips Dolphins' leadership after Jalen Ramsey trade

If Dad gets his say in his son’s next professional destination, then the Dolphins can probably scratch Asante Samuel Jr.’s name off their list of potential free agent cornerbacks.

In a recent edition of his YouTube show “Say What Needs To Be Said,” Asante Samuel Sr. took the Dolphins’ decision to trade away cornerback Jalen Ramsey to task. The 11-year NFL vet, two-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Pro Bowler didn’t hold back in his assessment of the Dolphins’ leadership.

“Dolphins had no reason to trade Jalen Ramsey other than they’re sensitive, there’s no leadership in the Dolphins’ organization. Mike McDaniel is a pushover. Chris Grier, the general manager, he has no backbone.

“These guys over here, the Miami Dolphins, they are running this team like a little league team. No one can stand up to the players. They’re terrified of their own players and they have no control over their players,” Samuel said in the recent episode.

Moving a player of Ramsey’s caliber was always going to attract some strong opinions across the sports world.

Ramsey is a seven-time Pro Bowler, a three-time first-team All-Pro and a Super Bowl-winning cornerback. But, other reports would indicate the Dolphins did have reasons to move on from Ramsey.

The Sun Sentinel’s Dave Hyde noted Ramsey’s habit of showing up late to practices and meetings and how he undermined both former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported that the Dolphins have checked in on the recovery of Asante Samuel Sr.’s son, Asante Samuel Jr., as he works his way back from a neck injury.

Samuel Jr. underwent neck surgery in April, but he remains one of the top free agent cornerbacks on the market. The former Los Angeles Charger has appeared in 50 career games and started 47, including four starts with the Chargers last season.
