A new, New York-style pizza joint is coming to 1491 W. Nine Mile Road, joining neighboring popular dining establishments such as Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, Mrs. Jones Cold Brew Coffee and Lou’s Pizza.
New York-founded franchise Johnny Brusco’s will bring over 40 years of traditional New York-style pizza recipes into the fold, specializing in hand-tossed, thin-crust dough that is brick-oven baked for a crispy exterior and soft, chewy interior, according to the Johnny Brusco’s Pizza website. Johnny Brusco’s Managing Partner Luke Jackson confirmed the Pensacola location to the News Journal on Aug. 19. The new pizzeria will be owned and operated by franchisee Stephen Long.

Johnny Brusco’s got its humble start as Johnny’s in Manlius, New York, where 16-year-old Bruce Jackson, who would later go on to become the president of the company, started working. Jackson went on to open his own location off the Syracuse University campus with his younger brother, eventually bringing business partner Scott Allen into the fold, who now serves as the company’s vice president. Together, they built the brand, beginning to franchise their locations in 1994, and now have locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. In 2003, they gave the brand a more distinctive name to enter the national level as Johnny Brusco’s, while still operating under the philosophy of being a neighborhood pizzeria.
