Summer is here, sort of, and it is everyone’s favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay.
Are we going to write about quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans.

Player Summary
Gabe Harris Jr. is one of the more difficult defenders to evaluate based solely on statistics. A quick glance at the box score shows only three career sacks despite more than 700 defensive snaps. However, the film paints a more nuanced picture of a player whose value extends beyond traditional pass-rush production.
Georgia has deployed Harris in a variety of roles throughout his career. While listed as an outside linebacker, his film frequently resembles that of a hybrid front-seven defender. He aligns both on the edge and in tighter alignments, often functioning somewhere between a traditional edge rusher and a 4i defender. That versatility helps explain why Georgia trusted him with significant playing time despite modest sack totals.
One of the more impressive aspects of Harris’ game is his hand usage. He consistently plays with strong, active hands and demonstrates the ability to redirect blockers when he gains leverage. Rather than simply absorbing contact, Harris often dictates where offensive linemen move, creating opportunities for teammates and helping maintain defensive structure.
As a pass rusher, Harris wins more with awareness and effort than overwhelming physical traits. The biggest question moving forward revolves around ceiling. Harris is a good athlete, but he does not currently possess the elite burst, bend, or power commonly associated with top pass-rush prospects. Instead, his game is built on intelligence, toughness, versatility, and consistent execution.
Players like Harris often earn NFL opportunities because coaches trust them. Whether lining up on the edge or working from tighter alignments, he has repeatedly shown the willingness to do the dirty work that doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet.
