A construction worker had reportedly been trying to offload an excavator machine from a transport trailer along the shoulder of the highway when it flipped on its side, Jackson said.

Bystanders attempted to help the worker out of the construction machine before authorities arrived, the CHP sergeant said.

The worker was eventually freed and taken to a local hospital with injuries, the sergeant said. Details of the injuries were not available.
