Why the Rams should consider trading down from No. 13 in the draft

The Los Angeles Rams have made one single selection in the first round during the Sean McVay era. While they nailed the pick, selecting Jared Verse, who would win Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, their policy of leveraging first-round picks for high-value veterans has been one that has paid off in the long run.

As a result of their willingness to trade picks, the Rams found themselves with two first-rounders this year after trading down from No. 26 with the Atlanta Falcons last year. They used one to trade for Trent McDuffie and held the other, which is the 13th overall pick. As likely as it is for there to be a quality player available, the Rams should consider trading down from No. 13.

If the Rams were to trade back from 13, there’s a chance they could get a future first-round pick, on top of other compensation in return. That pick they get may be a bit more down the river, but it’s bound to yield promising options who can help the team win now and win in the future.

However, the Rams have another love affair in the trade market. They may be known for trading away first-rounders, but it’s their use of the midseason trade market that sets them above the rest. Jalen Ramsey, Von Miller, Dante Fowler Jr., Roger McCreary. The Rams love a good midseason trade and both of their Super Bowl trips were assisted by such a practice.

We don’t know what injuries or roster holes the Rams will have in a few months, but if they can stack up picks, they will have the trade capital to make a move this season. Thus, they should strongly consider dealing their 13th overall pick.
