An 18-year-old man turned himself in to investigators Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in Victorville last weekend, authorities said.
Michael Christopher Gallardo of Fontana surrendered himself at the Upland Police Department during the early-morning hours of April 3, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and booking records.
He was booked on suspicion of murder for the killing of Elias Victor Marcell Brooks of Victorville.
The shooting took place Sunday, March 29, at Starshine Drive and Eugene Road in Victorville, sheriff’s officials said at the time.
Deputies responding to reports of gunfire in the area encountered Brooks, who had been shot multiple times.
He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Tuesday, March 31.
No further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting were released. A motive was not clear.
Gallardo was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance, scheduled Tuesday, April 7, in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
Home near crime scene damaged in arson
A home at the same intersection where the shooting took place was badly damaged by an arsonist in a fire that was ignited about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2.
No one was inside the house at the time, officials said. No arrests were reported.
Investigators declined to discuss whether the arson and the fire may be linked.
