Sheriff's deputy transported to local hospital after crash in Moorpark

A deputy from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in a traffic collision in Moorpark Oct. 22.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office were dispatched to the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Millard Street around 8:43 a.m. after receiving a call that one of their officers was involved in a crash, said sheriff’s Capt. Steve Michalec.

The crash involved a sheriff’s deputy on a patrol motorcycle and at least one other vehicle, Michalec said. CHP logs showed the other vehicle was likely a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, Michalec said. No other injuries were reported, he added.

Additional details of the crash were not immediately available but the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark office is investigating the crash, said CHP Officer Ryan Ayers.

The crash closed down the westbound lanes of Los Angeles Avenue from Spring Road to Millard Street, authorities said. Los Angeles Avenue is a major commuter roadway also known as State Route 118.

A post on CHP Moorpark’s X account showed that the roads were likely to reopen at 11 a.m.
