The Michigan Wolverines have gotten off to a record of 13-7 with the start of the Sherrone Moore era, which brings into question whether or not Moore will remain the head coach of the former National Champions next season.
Moore had the unfortunate challenge of following in the footsteps of Jim Harbaugh, who ended his tenure with the Wolverines with a National Championship. Now Michigan has appeared to be a shell of themselves, which has the Big Ten Football Roundtable debating whether or not Moore should remain the leader of the team.

Yes. Moore is in over his head. He benefited from Ohio State and Alabama being horribly coached last season. His players love him, but the Michigan job is not a training position. Coaches should be fully formed and able to carry out the job at an elite level. Moore and Michigan are not especially close to that standard. Michigan needs to get a proven elite coach, period. The program shouldn’t settle for less.

Fair or not, I think that Sherrone Moore’s status at Michigan is very much tied to quarterback Bryce Underwood. The Wolverines went out and spent a fortune on a high school quarterback to be the future of their program. Moore is not on the hot seat now. My feeling is that he will be given the three or four years that Underwood is in Ann Arbor to prove that he can build a winner around him. That being said, I do not think that any Michigan coach can truly be on the hot seat until they lose to Ohio State, against whom Moore is 2-0.

It’s been a disappointing season for the Wolverines but I don’t know if a head coaching change is what Michigan needs. Moore still has one more game on his suspension to serve next year and I’d let Moore remain in charge until all of their punishments are fulfilled. Michigan is paying a lot of money on their roster which means that anything is on the table.

Moore is undefeated against Ohio State; he should keep his job just off of that alone. Coaches are getting fired for going 8-4 or 9-3 now? Some programs would kill for that right now. In that case, P.J. Fleck should have been fired. I know there will be some enticing names that become available this offseason, but Sherrone Moore should get more time to coach this football team. The very thing missing from this team may be the cheating.

Michigan is going through a lot, due to the repercussions of their championship season scandal. Moore has been suffering from the suspension, so he deserves some grace. Yes, the Wolverines have been struggling, but I think he deserves a bit more time to fairly evaluate what he can do for their program.

I think if Michigan loses 3 more games (very possible given that they have Washington, Maryland, and Ohio State left on the schedule) Sherrone Moore should be on the very, very hot seat heading into 2026. To be fully transparent, I think they should fire him if they lose 5 games, but I don’t think they will. I think because of all of the sanctions and other obstacles he has faced during his tenure they will let him stay to begin the 2026 season…but if he loses 2 of Michigan’s first 6 games again they will pull the plug.
