Redding man accused of stabbing another man outside ex-girlfriend's home

A Redding man was arrested and charged with attempted murder last Saturday, accused of stabbing another man at a Redding residence, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Monday, the suspect, Vincent Michael Souza, 24, was being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to authorities, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call shortly before 1 p.m. on June 7 after a stabbing was reported at a home on the 7400 block of Bridge Lane.

A woman said her ex-boyfriend, later identified as Vincent Michael Souza, stabbed her male friend and then drove off in black passenger vehicle.

Deputies arrived to find a man with stab wounds to his neck and arm. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to fully recover.

During the investigation, deputies learned Souza had come to the woman’s home to return some of her clothes. A verbal altercation broke out between the two men.

As he was driving away from the home, the sheriff’s office said, Souza headed for the other man, who struck Souza’s vehicle with a metal object. Souza got out of the vehicle and stabbed the victim, authorities said.

The woman, who attempted to intervene, suffered an injury to her hand and refused medical treatment.

A short time later, deputies found Souza’s vehicle at a home on the 2000 block of Martian Way in Redding, where deputies first found Souza’s father, 53-year-old Anthony Phillip Souza.

Officials said the elder Souza was “uncooperative and resisted,” but was ultimately arrested on suspicion of obstructing and resisting a peace officer.

Vincent Michael Souza emerged from the home, and law enforcement officers arrested him. A search warrant executed at the residence led to the discovery of bloody clothing that belonged to Vincent Michael Souza and other evidence, according to the sheriff’s office.
