The offseason hiring cycle has been over for some time, but one team is still looking for a general manager. The Minnesota Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in late January and they have yet to fill his position as general manager.
Now that the draft is over, they’ve begun looking more closely at candidates, and one member of the Rams front office caught their eye. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Vikings have requested to interview Rams assistant general manager John McKay for their GM job.
McKay was promoted to assistant GM in 2025 after being the director of pro scouting for four years. In total, he’s been with the Rams for 10 years, accumulating a lot of experience under Les Snead. He started out as a scouting assistant in 2016.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was with the Rams from 2020-2021 when he was McVay’s offensive coordinator, so he has some familiarity with McKay. McKay was mentioned by SI’s Albert Breer as a “hot name” in this year’s hiring cycle, and though he didn’t land a GM job elsewhere, there’s still a chance he could be hired by Minnesota.
The Rams’ front office is one of the best in football and McKay is a rising young member of Snead’s staff.
