Pat Spencer makes his thoughts clear on possible Steve Kerr departure

Backup point guard Pat Spencer enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 season behind extra opportunities given by head coach Steve Kerr.

In his third season in the NBA, Spencer posted career highs in minutes played, points, rebounds, assists and three-point percentage.

Although Spencer’s 7.2 points per game might not jump off the page, they weren’t bad for an undrafted 29-year-old, especially with Stephen Curry missing 39 games due to injury.

In Spencer’s exit interview, he spoke about the biggest topic in the organization at the moment, the possibility of coach Kerr departing from the team after 12 seasons.

Spencer expressed gratitude for his time with the coach, comparing their relationship to that of family.

“I owe Steve everything. He’s been like a second father to me since I’ve been here. Can’t say enough about him. It’d be an honor to have him back here.”

While teammate Draymond Green expects Kerr to depart, Golden State’s players have been tremendously vocal about their desire for him to return.
