Medias bias against Israel
My personal belief some readers may not agree with, but I believe if all the technological and biological advances and inventions that come from Israel were reported more widely, perhaps there wouldn’t be as much antisemitism in the world today.
Has our media reported the fact that the Israeli special Search and Rescue Teams go to every disaster to help all over the world? They most recently went to help after the earthquakes in Venezuela and Columbia, plus I’m sure they are on their way to Indonesia also.
When we report on disasters, we mention what the U.S. and other countries are doing to help but conveniently omit any mention of Israel’s help. Ask yourself why? We can do much to change this present atmosphere of antisemitism if we just give credit where credit is due. We had no problem reporting fake news given by Hamas but never reported true news from Israel to counter it.
Why would our media prefer to print and televise the news coming from a terrorist organization than that coming from an ally with a democratically elected government much like our own?

An Oxnard College legend
Re: Dr. Steve Hall’s July 19 guest column, “Shaping the future at Oxnard College”:
Thank you, Dr. Hall, for your excellent summary of Oxnard College’s 50th anniversary. If you had had more editorial space, I am certain you would have filled a book. I am proud to say that I was hired as one of the first two Oxnard College coaches and also served as the athletic director. I recall that from the beginning our teams were competitive and successful, even though we did not have any buildings, athletic fields, classrooms, and gymnasiums on campus for several years. Congratulations once again to our men’s soccer team who won two state championships in recent years.
I cannot pass up on the opportunity to remind and inform all of the greatest athletic achievements by an Oxnard College individual athlete. In the second year of Oxnard College, a former Channel Islands High School graduate, Ed Ramirez, won two individual state championships.
In the fall of 1976 Ed won the Western State Conference, Southern California and State Cross Country Championships. That following spring, he won the WSC 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run championships and the Southern California and state 5,000-meter run track championships. He was undefeated in all races that year in cross country and track.
He was recently inducted into the Oxnard College Athletic Hall of Fame and recently nominated for the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame. Ed is also the first athlete from the Ventura County Community College District (Oxnard, Moorpark, Ventura) to win two state titles in two different sports. He is still the only individual state champion in the history of Oxnard College.
Oxnard College is proud of Ed Ramirez’s achievements, and I am honored to say that I was his coach and still his friend.
Juan Hernandez, Oxnard College founding faculty member, cross country and track coach
