Man dies after shooting inside Simi Valley home

A man in his 20s was fatally shot June 18 after an early morning altercation inside a Simi Valley home.

The Simi Valley Police Department responded to the shooting in the 4100 block of Eileen Street shortly before 1 a.m., according to Sgt. Rick Morton, a spokesman for the department.

He said their dispatchers received their first call reporting five to six shots fired around 12:50 a.m. in the 4100 block of Deborah Street and within minutes received a report of an intruder a street over in the home on Eileen Street.

The second caller explained that her husband had confronted an intruder who had a large kitchen knife. A dispute ensued, and the husband shot the man, Morton said.

The man was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center where he later was pronounced dead, he said.

The sergeant said the wife and the intruder had, at some point, been a relationship but it was not immediately clear when.

She had taken out a temporary restraining order against the man although the timing was also not presently known, he said. Simi Valley police had been to the home over reports of the ex-boyfriend, Morton said.

Two children, both under 12, were at home at the time of the shooting, Morton said.

Morton said the husband, who was cooperating with detectives, was at the station being interviewed. No arrests had been made as of 8:30 a.m.
