A 68-year-old man died while out on an e-bicycle with a group in Sycamore Canyon in Point Mugu State Park April 11.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Kevin Kipp said on April 12 deputies were called around 1:20 p.m. about a person not breathing at Big Sycamore Canyon and Ranch Center roads, not far from Rancho Sierra Vista in Newbury Park.
The initial emergency call was dispatched before 1 p.m. Andrew Dowd, a spokesman for Ventura County Fire Department, said April 12 their crews responded to a remote rescue for a male patient who was in cardiac arrest.
By the time deputies arrived, county fire and state park rangers had been at the scene where the man who had crashed on his bike, according to Kipp. He said members of the cycling group tried to resuscitate the man, and emergency personnel soon took over.
Kipp said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and Dowd confirmed the man was not transported to the hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies were called for the death investigation, and the man likely had a medical problem that led to the crash, Kipp said.
