Seemingly everyone has been speculating about how much longer LeBron James will play in the NBA. For the first time in his career, he is in the final year of his contract, and this will be his 23rd season in the league, which will set a new record.
Some expect this to be the final season of his storied career, while others feel he will ultimately decide to stick around for one or even two more seasons. It has seemed as if perhaps even James himself didn’t know what he wanted to do past this season.

But on Monday, he made a cryptic post on his X (formerly Twitter) account announcing something he called the “decision of all decisions,” or “the second decision,” which he said would take place on Tuesday. This seems to be a reference to his 2010 ESPN special, “The Decision,” during which he announced he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat.
This could turn out to be a decision about how much longer the 40-year-old superstar will stay in the NBA. Or it could be some type of off-the-court news.
There is no doubt that James loves and perhaps needs to be the center of attention and have the public talk about him. It is always possible that this post is nothing more than an attempt to keep himself in the news cycle. He is yet to play during the preseason, presumably because, according to Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick, he’s been dealing with nerve irritation in his glute.
