Lakers jersey history No. 30 — Bill Turner

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Bill Turner, a 6-foot-7 forward, entered the NBA in 1967 as a member of the San Francisco Warriors after playing his college basketball at the University of Akron. Over the next several years, he contributed off the bench for the Warriors, Cincinnati Royals and Portland Trail Blazers before coming to the Lakers midway through the 1972-73 season.

He appeared in 19 regular-season games with the Lakers and averaged two points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.2 minutes a game, and he also got onto the court for two playoff games during their run to the NBA Finals that year. Turner retired shortly afterward with career regular-season averages of 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game.
