Fort Fire: Brush fire in Kern County causes delays on I-5 Grapevine, evacuation warnings

Kern County firefighters are battling a wildfire burning along Interstate 5 in the Grapevine.

The Fort Fire ignited at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lebec area near I-5 and Fort Tejon Road. It’s currently 5% contained at 220 acres, according to CalFire.

At least one southbound lane of the 5 Freeway was shut down as firefighters worked on containing the fire, Kern County Fire Department reported. Authorities are telling motorists to expect delays on Thursday if traveling through the Grapevine.

In addition, an evacuation warning has been issued for those living in the Digier Canyon area. The boundaries of the evacuation warning are for residents south and west of the I-5 freeway who are north of Temescal Drive and Digier Road and east of Grapevine Road.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
