ESPN predicts Chargers will sign 10-year veteran guard

The Chargers’ top priority this offseason will be revamping an offensive line that gave up a handful of pressures and sacks this past season. In particular, the interior part of the offensive line needs to be addressed.

To fix it, ESPN’s Kris Rhim predicts that Los Angeles will “blow their free agency money” on Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo.

The 33-year-old Seumalo is coming off his 10th NFL season, which was a productive one. His 97.3% pass rush win rate ranked second among 65 qualifying guards, and his 76.9% run block win rate checked in at fourth, per ESPN.

Seumalo would be a good fit in offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s system, as he’s shown the ability to excel not only in a gap scheme but also in a zone scheme, where he has the athleticism to effectively reach block, seal the backside, and climb to the second level to engage linebackers.

Seumalo also brings valuable experience, including a Super Bowl championship from his time with the Eagles before joining Pittsburgh in 2023.

Left guard Zion Johnson is set to be a free agent, and right guard Mekhi Becton could be a cut candidate after underwhelming play after being signed by the Chargers. But Seumalo has proven to be effective in both spots.

Pro Football Focus projects Seumalo’s contract to be for one year, worth $8 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed.
