Crews with the Ventura County Fire Department responded around 10:20 a.m. to the 300 block of Corsicana Drive in the unincorporated community north of Oxnard.

Andrew Dowd, a county fire spokesman, said firefighters found a working fire in the 50-foot-by-50-foot garage. No other structures were threatened. Crews stayed on scene for several hours.

One person suffered minor injuries in the blaze and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, Dowd said. No firefighters were hurt.

Man arrested in connection with T.O. shooting

A 24-year-old Simi Valley man was arrested in connection with a shooting in Thousand Oaks April 8.

Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 2400 block of West Hillcrest Drive around 5:30 a.m. on a report of vandalism, according to a news release. Deputies found a front window shattered by a single gunshot.

Sheriff’s detectives later learned that the night before around 11 p.m. a man was outside the business and shot into the building. No employees or customers were inside the building at the time, sheriff’s officials said.

Detectives later identified the Simi Valley man as the alleged shooter. He was arrested later in the morning April 8 at a local motel, sheriff’s officials said.

Because the man is on probation, detectives searched the man’s room and said they found a loaded gun, which was later determined stolen. Investigators also said a spent casing found at the business appeared to match ammunition found in the room.

The man was booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of felonies for discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, shooting at an uninhabited building, possession of a gun by a felon and possession of a gun by a prohibited person, according to jail records. The man is also facing a probation violation, jail records show.

The man appeared in Ventura County Superior Court April 10 where he pleaded not guilty to his charges and denied a slew of special allegations associated with the shooting, jail and court records show.

He is scheduled to return to April 14. He is being held on $505,000 bail.

2 arrested in theft from T.O. business

Two men, ages 46 and 47, from Lancaster were arrested April 3 after allegedly stealing from a Thousand Oaks business.

Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 2000 block of Teller Road around 4 p.m. on a report of a theft by two men who left the business without paying for goods they concealed, according to news release.

Deputies quickly found the men in a vehicle but the men refused to pull over, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies chased the car until Lynn Road and Highway 101 but called off the pursuit.

The car was later spotted northbound on Highway 23 and detectives followed the men into the San Fernando Valley where the pair was arrested with the help of the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s officials said they also found evidence in the vehicle of stolen goods from other Ventura County stores.

California Highway Patrol Officers also later found a gun, magazine and ammunition on the shoulder of Highway 101 near Rancho Conejo Boulevard, according to the sheriff’s office. The items were believed thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit, sheriff’s officials said. The gun was reportedly stolen during a residential burglary in Lancaster, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 47-year-old was arrested and booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of two counts of felony petty theft with two prior convictions and felony evading an officer, according to jail records.

He appeared April 7 in Ventura County Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to his charges and denied multiple special allegations, according to court records. He is being held on $250,000 bail and is set to return to court April 16 for an early disposition conference.
