The Los Angeles Lakers may have gotten a steal during June’s NBA draft when they swapped the rights to their No. 25 overall pick, Sergio De Larrea, for the rights to the No. 24 pick, guard Cameron Carr. Carr had been taken by the New York Knicks, and the 6-foot-5 shooting guard is thought to have quite a bit of potential.
Last season, while at Baylor University, he averaged 18.9 points and 5.8 assists a game while shooting 49.4% from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range. He has a wingspan of nearly 7-foot-1, as well as a 42.5-inch vertical leap, and in the latest edition of the NBA 2K video game franchise, he has been given a very high rating for his athleticism.
In the category of vertical leap, Carr has a rating of 98 in NBA 2K27, which ranks him fourth among all players this year.
The 21-year-old struggled during summer league play last month, but many expect him to earn some playing time this coming season and possibly even make his way into coach JJ Redick regular rotation.
His ability to hit open shots, both as a standstill shooter and a movement shooter, finish strong in transition and even defend well can help the Lakers eventually take the next step forward in their continued quest for their 18th NBA championship.
