Week 11 of college football was filled with memorable performances from a variety of players across the Big Ten Conference, which gave their teams the edge in the many nail-biting games in the this week’s Big Ten Football Roundup.
There were seven games that were played in the Big Ten Conference. Three of them were absolute blowouts, but four of them came down to one score. Week 11 had everything a viewer could ask for from toe-tapping finishes, walk-off field goals, near-comeback victories and more.
Here is the Week 11 Big Ten Football Roundup.
38-17 USC vs Northwestern
The Wildcats attempted to keep it close against the Trojans, but they made too many mistakes. It was already going to be a difficult battle with Northwestern visiting the Trojans’ den, but losing the turnover battle 2-1, one coming after causing a turnover, and third struggles did them in. The Wildcats just didn’t have the firepower to keep up and their mistakes dug them into a steeper hole.
34-10 Ohio State vs Purdue
The Boilermakers were able to shutout the Buckeyes for two quarters, but that doesn’t mean much when they also gave up 24-points in one quarter. Ohio State scored on all four of their drives in the second quarter and all Purdue could do was watch their 3-0 lead dissipate in front of them as their hopes of pulling off an upset evaporated before halftime.
27-24 Indiana vs Penn State
The Nittany Lions gave the Hoosiers a run for their money, but Indiana’s offense led by junior quarterback Fernando Mendoza was just good to stop. Mendoza led a game-winning drive with a miraculous toe-tapping snag in the back of the end zone by junior wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to win the game.
18-16 Oregon vs Iowa
The Hawkeyes gave Ducks’ sophomore quarterback Dante Moore everything they could and the young signal caller had a rough performance to say the least. Moore was unable to throw for a touchdown and had an interception, but he was still able to make the plays when he was needed to win the game. With less than two minutes in the game, Moore marched his team down the field and the Ducks scored a walk-off field goal to take down Iowa.
13-10 Wisconsin vs Washington
The Huskies had an embarrassing performance as they were held scoreless in three of four quarters by the Badgers. Washington’s sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. had two turnovers, an interception and fumble, but the offense was just abysmal overall. The Badgers had four different players throw a pass in the game for a total of 48 yards and the Huskies still lost.
35-20 Rutgers vs Maryland
Maryland’s freshman quarterback Malik Washington struggled to throw the ball as he ended the game with less than 100-passing yards, but he led the Terrapins with 164-rushing yards. In any other game he would be the leading rusher, but not this one. Rutgers’ sophomore running back Antwan Raymond had 240-rushing yards from a whopping 41 carries, according to ESPN.
28-21 Nebraska vs UCLA
The Cornhuskers lost sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola for the season, but freshman quarterback TJ Lateef had the a sensational debut to help Nebraska stay afloat in the standings. Lateef had two incompletions in the game and passed for 208 yards with three touchdowns. The Bruins defense was picked apart between Lateef and junior running back Emmett Johnson. Redshirt sophomore Bruins’ quarterback Nico Iamaleava did everything he could for a comeback, but he received little help as UCLA’s magic seems to have run out.
