Los Angeles Rams tight end Terrence Ferguson could be looking at a sophomore breakout. The 2025 second-rounder didn’t do much in his rookie season (just 11 receptions for 231 yards and three touchdowns), but there’s s a world in which he becomes a top target for Matthew Stafford in head coach Sean McVay’s offense.
At least, that’s what fantasy football analyst Ryan Warmly believes.
“It would not surprise me if he’s the third-best pass catcher in one of the best offenses in football this year,” Warmly said. “Like, just behind Puka [Nacua] and Davante [Adams]. Like, if he ends up being TE1 statistically this season as he takes a step forward in his next year in the league, that would not surprise me at all.
“Used to be that tight ends took a while to develop. He’s only 23, right? The fact that he didn’t quite have the opportunity, given the nature of the offense, to be that kind of Sam LaPorta, you know, Brock Bowers season 1 breakout, doesn’t scare me off at all. He still got good draft capital, like you mentioned, he’s still a really athletic player. I’m almost like too much of a fan of his, where I’m glad it ended up being you putting him on this list and not me, because I feel like I’m a little consistently too high on Ferguson.”
Ferguson’s path to an increased role is possible given the nature of the offense and that there’s no clear-cut NO. 3 options for Stafford behind Nacua and Adams. Last year, that third option turned into an amalgamation of Feguson, Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen. Those four combined for 101 receptions, 1,128 yards and 17 touchdowns. Running back Kyren Williams also caught 36 receptions for 281 yards and three scores.
Now, that could happen again in 2026. Especially after the Rams used a second-round pick on another tight end in the draft when they selected Ohio State’s Max Klare. But, given Ferguson’s skillset as a pseudo receiver in this offense, a big breakout in Year 2 is certainly not out of the question. Parkinson and Allen are impending free agents after 2026, too, and Higbee is 33.
Ferguson may quickly develop into the top tight end for the Rams in only his second NFL season.
