All about Redding Public Market's new restaurant. Cider bar now open

With the Redding Public Market meeting expectations, developers behind the popular downtown destination have plans to open a sit-down restaurant.

There is a California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control application on the outside door near the common seating area shared by Heads or Tails Cocktail Bar and Bread Butchers & Cold Brews.

The notice states that Front Door Hospitality LLC is the applicant doing business as Lazzarino’s. It’s a type 47 on-sale general eating place application, which would allow beer, wine and hard liquor to be served.

Front Door Hospitality also owns the liquor license for Heads or Tails Cocktail Bar. K2 Development’s Allen Knott and Daniel Knott are Front Door’s managing partners, and K2 also is the developer behind the Public Market.

Daniel Knott told me that they are still working out the details for the restaurant. So, while the name Lazzarino’s suggests it will be an Italian menu, Knott said that might not be the case.

K2’s Erin Ross, who manages the Redding Public Market, echoed Knott.

“We are excited to be in the concept and design phase for this new establishment flanking the south Market Center patio. While we do anticipate this concept to feature sit-down dining with table side service, we have learned that (how) things start out is not always how things end up as the creative process unfolds,” she said.

They don’t have an estimated opening date for the restaurant.

“No timeline. We are actually sorting that out, so I don’t have anything definitive. I would imagine in the next three to six months we will have” more information, Knott said.

Redding Public Market opened in late November with much fanfare after about a two-year buildout.

“It’s been going really well. The Market is meeting expectations. We are making some small adjustments,” Knott said. “Overarchingly, the reception from the public has been positive and we are looking to build on that momentum.”

Stay tuned.

New cider and beer house opens downtown

After several months of work, Logic Ciderbar & Alehouse opened recently in downtown Redding.

The boyfriend-girlfriend team of Alan Colwell and Hailey Friesner own the establishment, which is in the Market Street Alley (1534 Market St.) between Yuba and Butte streets.

“We are really excited. It was more stress, but it was stress about fun things. But it’s a relief to be open,” Friesner said.

Colwell said they did the buildout themselves. The bar top features live edge pine that Colwell sanded and Friesner conditioned and stained. The art on the walls of the adjoining sitting lounge are pictures taken by Colwell’s father, Rocky Colwell.

Amy Rains, who owns Curly Creations Hair Salon next to Logic, is happy to see the alehouse finally open. She had a front-row seat during the buildout.

“I think it’s great. It’s nice for us to have local small businesses supporting each other,” Rains said. “I think it’s going to bring a lot more traffic to me. It’s nice; the whole downtown is waking up.”

Rains said Colwell and Friesner did a good job of bringing a variety and unique selections of ciders and beers to downtown.

Among the offerings, according to Logic’s Facebook page, are California ciders from Clarksburg and Auburn, and a Concord Grape cider from Portland, Oregon.

For beer, there are IPAs from Redwood Curtain in Arcata, Laughing Monk in San Francisco, Moonraker Brewing in Auburn, and a Czech pilsner from Solid Ground in Diamond Springs. They also carry a hazy IPA made by a small local Redding brewery called Fresh Beer.

Logic Ciderbar & Alehouse also serves hard seltzers and nonalcoholic beer and kombucha.

The business’ grand opening will coincide with downtown’s First Friday on May 1.

Logic Ciderbar & Alehouse is open 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The business is closed Tuesday.

Dunkin’ Donuts getting close

Redding’s first Dunkin’ Donuts is expected to open before this summer.

I recently paid a visit to the location inside the Chevron/Extra Mile station across the street from Costco near the corner of South Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane.

Stonebridge Developers is doing the work. The company also did the buildout for the new Buffalo Wild Wings GO in the Target shopping center and will build a second Dunkin’ later this year in Mountain Gate.

The Dunkin’ in Mountain Gate will replace a Mexican restaurant at KC’s Corner Mart on Holiday Road that burned down in August 2024.

Work started on the Dunkin’ in south Redding last month as crews gutted what was a Burger King to make room for the coffee and donut chain.
