The San Francisco 49ers may already know who they’re picking on Day 2 of the NFL draft.
General manager John Lynch spoke with reporters Thursday night after the first round finished and according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco indicated the club has “a good idea of where we’re going.”
It makes sense they’d move down if they knew they could do so without losing out on a player at or near the top of their draft board. There’s a strong list of players available on Day 2 and the 49ers will be on the clock with the second pick of the second round, so San Francisco should have its pick of a slew of helpful prospects with their first of two second-round selections.
Lynch also told reporters the 49ers had a framework for their first trade worked out with Miami before the draft. Their second trade with the Jets came together as the board shook out late in the first round per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.
They could look to add a wide receiver like Washington’s Denzel Boston. There are edge rushers like Missouri’s Zion Young and Texas A&M’s Cashius Howell still around. Safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is also a potential target for the 49ers. Interestingly, there was speculation when the 49ers were on the clock at No. 30 overall that they’d look to snag some players from that group.
Now they’ll have an opportunity to grab a player from that group while also acquiring additional draft capital in the process.
