(Port Huron, MI July 14th, 2023) Thanks to a grant from the City of Port Huron, the Blue Water Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and SEMCO Energy, three of the Port Huron Museums sites will once again be returning to free admission for all visitors. This will be effective July 14th, 2023.
The free admission is not limited to City residents, as the program is designed to bring in tourist dollars to the region. Port Huron Museums operates four sites that include the Thomas Edison Depot Museum, the HURON Lightship and the flagship Carnegie Museum in Downtown Port Huron. The fourth site, the Fort Gratiot Light Station, is run in conjunction with St. Clair County Parks and Recreation. While admission to the Light Station grounds is still free, guided tours of the buildings that include a tower climb will remain at their current admission rate of $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. There is free admission for veterans and Museum members.
“We are very proud to be able to offer this access to the area’s shared cultural heritage. Not only will this be great for locals, the free admission will attract visitors and dollars from outside the Blue Water Area.” said Andrew Kercher, Community Engagement Manager at Port Huron Museums.
Executive Director Veronica Campbell said, “While this initiative offers free admission to all of our visitors, we will be ramping up our membership perks, including member appreciation events and free programs. We appreciate our members and their support goes to support the Museums in all programming and exhibitions we create for our community. We are happy to make the museums accessible to all and look forward to another stellar year! Thank you to our sponsors and community partners, including the City and CVB, for their help in making this possible.”
The Free Admission will cover access to the Thomas Edison Depot, HURON Lightship and Carnegie Center, where tens of thousands visited between April, 2022 and April, 2023, during the last year of free admission. Special Exhibits, like the children’s exhibit Discovery City which is expected to return in the fall are an additional cost.
