Thank you, Canada, for stepping up for Gordie Howe Bridge
As one who has crossed the Ambassador Bridge dozens of times over the past 59 years, I read: “Moroun made mega MAGA gift before Trump threatened Gordie Howe Bridge” with great concern. (Detroit Free Press, Feb. 24.)
Having an alternative crossing for trucks and other vehicles will not only save some 850,000 hours per year in reduced wait times across the border, but will also reduce the massive greenhouse gas and toxic pollution associated with those vehicle delays.
Beyond this, the Ambassador Bridge is an old bridge that was constructed in 1929. From a simple physics perspective, this bridge will need major overhaul/renovations the longer it stands. Having an alternative route for trucks which facilitates vital trade between our nations is absolutely necessary when problems associated with aging force repeated repairs.
As an American, I want to personally thank Canada for taking the tremendous initiative to construct this much needed bridge at its expense. I also want to express my sorrow that our President and the Moroun family do not realize the damage they are causing to both of our nations by frustrating trade across the world’s longest international border.
Nevertheless, I am confident that the friendly relations that our countries have enjoyed for over 200 years will outlast the current administration, and the Moroun family.

Why the focus on reading scores now?
What a joke. At her final State of the State address, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer stood there and decried the fourth-grade reading test results, saying she was going to do something about it. Well, finally! Democrat lawmakers stood and cheered. They should all be ashamed.
Results have been declining the entire time Whitmer has been in office. Where has she been? These students spent their entire formal education years and then some under her leadership. I have yet to find anyone in government at any level I can truly say I admire much less just trust. It has become a very sad state of affairs.
