The calendar has turned to August, which means the first day of a new school year is right around the corner.
Most local districts will head back to the classroom in late August, with one heading back in early September. All will return before Labor Day.
The Sentinel has compiled key dates for local districts, including the first day of school, shared breaks and other off days in 2026-27.
When do students return to school in the Holland area?
Fennville Public Schools will be the first district to bring students back, with the school year starting Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Holland Christian and Saugatuck Public Schools will both start Tuesday, Aug. 25. Black River Public School and Hamilton Community Schools will begin Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Five districts will begin Thursday, Aug. 27: Holland Public Schools, West Ottawa Public Schools, Eagle Crest Charter Academy, Vanderbilt Charter Academy and Calvary Schools of Holland.
The last district to return will be Zeeland Public Schools on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Regardless of their start date, all local schools will be closed Sept. 4-7 for Labor Day.
When are holiday breaks for schools in the Holland area?
All local districts are off Nov. 25-27 for Thanksgiving. Calvary Schools of Holland is also off Nov. 23-24.
All local districts are off Dec. 21-Jan. 1 for Winter Break, with school resuming Monday, Jan. 4. Students at Calvary Schools of Holland are also off Friday, Dec. 18.
When are students off during the second semester?
All area districts are off April 2-9 for Spring Break — with the exception of Calvary Schools of Holland, which is off April 5-9. All schools are closed Monday, May 31, for Memorial Day.

The final date of the second semester varies slightly for local schools, but all are half days:
