Pride Month has arrived, and organizations like the Pride Alliance of Livingston and Queer Families of Livingston are celebrating with annual events.
According to the Library of Congress, Pride Month is an annual remembrance of the 1969 Stonewall Riot in Manhattan — though the month has grown into a celebration of all who identify as LGBTQ+.
Locals kicked off the fun with a Rainbow Reception on June 1 at The AMP in Brighton.
Here’s our non-exhaustive list of other events you can enjoy this month:
Together Art Project: June 10
Community Unitarian Universalists of Brighton will host local artist Lora Garcelon and her “Together Art Project” from 6-8 p.m. June 10 at 3333 S. Old US-23 in Brighton. Garcelon created a collage of wood panels with messages of love and support from people across the U.S. and England for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
The project was on display at Cleary University until February and is now on display at CUUB through the end of June.
Pride Parade: June 14
The fifth annual Howell Pride Parade will run noon-3:30 p.m. June 14 at the Livingston County Historic Courthouse in Howell. The event will include food trucks and vendors, in addition to the stories, music and games from past years.
Pride Trivia Night
Teams of four will play three rounds of trivia hosted by Kenny Privett Productions running 7-9 p.m. June 25, at Aubree’s Pizzeria & Grill in Howell. The event is sponsored by Maureen Elliott of Edward Jones. Trivia is free to play and open to all.
Pride Prom: June 27
Pride Prom, hosted by Queer Families of Livingston, will run 7-10 p.m. June 27 at the Howell Opera House. This year’s theme is Myth and Magic. The prom is open to high schoolers and has no dress code.
Tickets are available at qflivco.org for $15. Teens who want to attend but can’t afford the cost can email qflivco@gmail.com for financial assistance with their ticket or outfit.
