A 62-year-old Eckerman man was killed Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28, in a snowmobile crash in Chippewa County, the Michigan State Police said.
The fatality is the 10th of the season, according to Michigan records online. Sixteen people died in Michigan over the 2024-25 season.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie MSP post were dispatched to “a serious snowmobile crash” along West Green Shack Road and South Chippewa Hunt Club Road in Whitefish Township at about 3:20 p.m.
The MSP said in a March 2 post on X that the snowmobile driver was southbound when he struck an embankment, causing the snowmobile to go airborne and eject him.
Emergency medical aid was attempted by a witness, police said, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
Eckerman is located north of M-28 along M-123 in the Upper Peninsula.
MSP was assisted by Whitefish Township Fire and EMS and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
