Last week, North Adams-Jerome senior James Johnson won the voting poll. Johnson was also the Daily News AOTW winner and the chosen 8-player football AOTW award honoree.

Coaches and readers can submit athlete of the week nominations by Sunday morning each week. Up to 12 athletes may be nominated in a given poll. Schools and sport categories that win two or more polls in a row will not be included on the next poll but will be eligble for Hillsdale Daily News choice awards.

Nominees

Luis Castro-Thilo – Camden-Frontier Football: The RedHawks’ 58-8 win over Tekonsha was led by senior Luis Castro-Thilo. Castro-Thilo earned eight touchdowns on the night — four in the air and four on the ground, one in return duties. This was a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown. In total, he passed for 225 yards, going 11-for-14 — adding 72 yards on the ground. He would also add an interception on defense. He was named the 8-player Week 2 football athlete of the week.

John Milks – Jonesville Football: The junior running back set new career-high rushing yards in a 38-34 win over Grass Lake. Milks took 40 carries for 265 yards and three touchdowns. He won the 11-player football athlete of the week honor from the Hillsdale Daily News for the second-straight week.

Conner Arsenault – North Adams-Jerome Football: The first home win since 2022 wouldn’t have been possible without North Adams-Jerome’s senior signal caller Conner Arsenault. The Rams’ 42-12 win over the Tigers was led by Arsenault’s five-touchdown performance. Arsenault had 18 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 14-of-23 with 125 yards and three touchdowns. He added a 2-point conversion on the ground and through the air.

Brendan Nave – Pittsford Football: Nave was the leading receiver in Pittsford’s 50-30 victory over SCAA-B rival Burr Oak. The Wildcats passed for 128 yards and three touchdowns in the game from quarterback Jake Drawe. Nave caught all three touchdown passes from Drawe, including a 49-yarder. Maybe just-as-important was his two interceptions on defense to help seal the victory.

Troy Shamplo – Waldron Football: Waldron’s 58-18 rivalry win over Litchfield, their first win on the season, was backed up by an impressive effort from Troy Shamplo. Troy Shamplo accounted for four of the Spartans’ touchdowns on a night the offense tallied 500 total yards. Shamplo carried the rock 19 times for 145 yards and three touchdowns. He also hauled in two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. He had seven tackles, two for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

Adams Alvarez – Hillsdale Academy Boys Soccer: The Colts traveled to “The Nest” to take on Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central at their home field and secured a 5-0 victory. The Colts’ keeper, Alvarez, made three key saves against threatening counter attacks. The Colts then won an 8-0 game against Manchester, where Alvarez would end up in a supporting role of a defensive clean sheet thanks to his fellow teammates.

Juliet King – Hillsdale Academy Volleyball: Colt Juliet King tallied 85 total assists during Week 2, helping Hillsdale Academy volleyball win a tri-match against Reading and Lansing Christian.

Laura LeMar – Pittsford Volleyball: The senior led the Wildcats to a 3-set victory over Jackson Christian. Her stats included nine kills and six digs as the team comfortably won the final two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17.

Morgan Wood – Jonesville Volleyball: The senior captain helped Jonesville win an impressive five-set Cascades matchup against Leslie on the road. Wood had 16 digs, two blocks and seven kills in the game. The seniro helped the team win a tri-match against Reading and Camden-Frontier earlier in the week. Wood had 13 kills, five blocks and 10 points at the service line.
