UNION CITY, MI — Union City’s Farm to Fork Day on Saturday, Sept. 27 is the annual celebration highlighting local agriculture, fresh food, and small-town hospitality for the community on the St. Joseph River.
Events run from 12:30 to 9 p.m. with the slogan of “Meats, Music, and More.”
Village manager Chris Mathis said the Green Thumb Garden Club came up with the slogan. The village closes down Broadway Street on Saturday for the fall festival.
Mathis said the annual event draws more than 200 people and brings the community together each fall.
Events for the day include:
Local farmers and eateries donate the free locally sourced roasted meats and sides. Dinnerware and water are provided; however, residents are asked to bring their own chairs.
Attendees are welcome to bring only cold potluck desserts to share.
Alcohol must be purchased from Broadway Grill and can only be consumed in the downtown social district.
Who are the Citizens of the Year?
At 5:45 p.m., the community will honor three Citizens of the Year, selected from a group nominated by the community and chosen by a village committee.
The list of each selected Citizen of the Year’s accolades is available on the Village of Union City’s Facebook page.
Walsh and Engle Carriage House
A special public dedication ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. for the newly constructed building.
The Union City Society for Historic Preservation secured donations for the building to showcase the only known Walsh & Engle-built carriage from the 1868 company, which existed in the village until the company burned in 1875. The carriage was donated to the society.
The carriage house is next to the Hammond House Museum, at 210 Charlotte St., in Union City.
