UFL RB Jacob Saylors signs with Detroit Lions; team cuts rookie TE

The Detroit Lions made a minor roster move ahead of their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, signing running back Jacob Saylors and waiving tight end Luke Deal with an injury designation.

Deal, a blocking tight end out of Auburn, signed with the Lions as a tryout player out of rookie minicamp.

Saylors has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns but never appeared in an NFL game. He played in the UFL this spring and led the St. Louis Battlehawks with 499 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

Undrafted rookie running back Kyle Robichaux left practice Monday with what appeared to be a shoulder injury and Lions coach Dan Campbell indicated he does not plan to play any key players in Thursday’s Hall of Fame preseason game against the Chargers.
