Two people were arrested in Monroe following an armed carjacking that occurred in Southfield.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, Monroe County Central Dispatch received information provided by the Southfield Police Department regarding a gray Nissan Altima stolen in their jurisdiction several hours before.
Using the vehicle information, Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Austin Graham started investigating on FLOCK security cameras throughout Monroe County. At 5:32 a.m., Graham saw the vehicle had been captured on camera traveling eastbound on West Seventh Street from South Telegraph Road.
Deputies converged on the area to search for the vehicle and at 5:35 a.m., Deputy Brent Thomas found it at the Sunoco gas station located in the 600 block of South Monroe Street. The two occupants had just exited and entered the gas station, but were taken into custody without incident once they came out, according to police.
The suspects, an 18-year-old man from Ypsilanti and an 18-year-old woman from Monroe, were lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle.
The Southfield Police Department was notified of the vehicle’s recovery and will be continuing their investigation.
