Two minors detained after Frenchtown vehicle theft, police chase

Two kids were arrested after allegedly running from a Monroe County deputy and Michigan State Police in a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning, July 29.

It began when troopers drove out to the area of the Custer Estates Apartments in Frenchtown Township after several callers reported larceny from vehicles, an attempt to steal a vehicle, and a successfully-stolen 2018 Ford Edge.

The Edge was spotted on Laplaisance Road near I-75 in Monroe Charter Township by Flock cameras.

“A short time later, a Michigan State Police trooper located the vehicle entering northbound I-75 from Laplaisance Road,” said the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in a release.

Deputy Austin Graham caught up with the suspect vehicle near Elm Street and tried to pull it over. Graham chased the vehicle for several miles before the pursuit ended at Van Horn Road and Telegraph Road in Brownstown Township. Both occupants were detained and lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center. Their ages are not being released at this time.

The two suspects are believed to have been involved in breaking and entering complaints made in the late evening and early morning of July 28 and 29.
