Top performers in high school sports from May 18-23

The spring season is winding down, giving the area plenty of top performers in high school sports each week.

Here is a look at the top performers of the week:

Linus VandenBerg Holland Christian golf

The Maroons golfer shot an eagle on his final hole of the OK Black Conference Championship to tie for medalist in the tournament on Monday, May 18. Vandenberg finished first in the overall conference standings and led the Maroons to their first conference title as a team since 2010.

Joselyn Paskvan, Hamilton soccer

The Hawkeye had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Spring Lake on Monday, May 18, to close the regular season. She also scored a goal in the 2-1 win over Holland to open districts.

Owen Brown, Hamilton baseball

The Hawkeye was 2-2 with an RBI, a walk, two stolen bases and three runs scored in a 10-6 win over Holland Christian on Monday, May 18.

Leah Margaron, Holland soccer

The Dutch senior scored in a 3-0 win over Black River on senior night on Monday, May 18, to close out the regular season. She also scored in Holland’s 2-1 loss to Hamilton in the district opener.

Julie Miedema, Holland Christian soccer

The Maroon scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Zeeland West on Monday, May 18, to close the regular season. She also scored a goal in the 2-0 rematch against the Dux on Friday, May 22, in the district opener.

Neave Rewa, Saugatuck soccer

The Trailblazers senior scored four goals in a 6-1 win over Bangor in the district opener on Friday, May 22. She also had an assist.

Avery Smith, Saugatuck soccer

The Trailblazer scored once and dished out three assists to lead Saugatuck past Bangor 6-1 in the district opener on Friday, May 22, at home.

Eli Zandstra, Holland Christian baseball

The Maroons’ slugger went 3-for-4 with a single, double, home run, three RBIs and a run scored in a matchup with Hamilton on Monday, May 18.

Grant Schrotenboer, Saugatuck golf

The Trailblazer finished as medalist in the final SAC tournament. He shot a 1-over-par 37 to claim medalist honors and led Saugatuck to the conference championship.
