Top Blue Water Area high school performers, April 27 – May 2

PORT HURON — Throughout the 2025-26 MHSAA sports season, the Times Herald will highlight the top performances of the past week from local high school athletes.

If you’d like to nominate an athlete, inform their coach to email Times Herald sports reporter Brenden Welper (bwelper@usatodayco.com). Please submit entries by 10 p.m. Sunday.

Listed below are the top performers in alphabetical order.

BASEBALL

Jack Betts — Sandusky: Betts pitched a complete game and threw 12 strikeouts in the Wolves’ 16-0 win over Marlette in six innings on April 30. He surrendered just three hits and one walk.

Joey Seppo — Port Huron: In five games last week, Seppo batted 5-for-11 with four doubles and three RBIs. He also had two runs, six walks and one stolen base. On the mound, in one inning of relief, Seppo added a strikeout.

BOYS GOLF

Cam Pruett — Port Huron Northern: Pruett shot a 37 and led the Huskies to a 154-170 victory over Clinton Township Chippewa Valley on April 29.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Trey Cummins — Marysville: Cummins scored 14.25 points in a dual meet against Warren Woods-Tower on April 28. He placed first in both the 100 meters (11.90 seconds) and the high jump (5.6 feet). Additionally, Cummins finished second in the long jump (18.5) and was the anchor leg of the winning 4×200 relay team (1:37.23).

Liam Knuth — Cardinal Mooney: At the Anchor Bay Invitational on May 1, Knuth set personal records in both the 1,600 meters (4:51.30) and the 3,200 meters (10:44.63).

GIRLS SOCCER

Caprii Fillar — Marine City: Fillar amassed five goals and three assists in the Mariners’ three games — all victories — last week.

Anna LaBroski — Almont: LaBroski made eight saves as goalkeeper in the Raiders’ 2-0 triumph over Flint Powers Catholic on April 30.

Pamela Prado — Imlay City: Prado totaled two goals and two assists in the Spartans’ 5-1 win over Algonac on April 30.

SOFTBALL

Charley Betts — Port Huron Northern: Betts pitched a complete game and tossed nine strikeouts in the Huskies’ 13-1 victory over New Haven in five innings on April 27. She allowed just one hit.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Marysville softball’s Tanner Wilton was voted the Blue Water Area Athlete of the Week for the week of April 20-25. On April 24, she pitched a complete game and threw 11 strikeouts in the Vikings’ 12-0 triumph over St. Clair Shores Lakeview in five innings. Wilton surrendered just three hits.
