Detroit — The Tigers are expected to call up switch-hitting utility player Trei Cruz before the game Friday, per multiple sources.
Cruz, 27, and a third-round pick in 2020, will replace Wenceel Perez, who is expected to be placed on the injured list.
Tuesday night, Perez was hit below his left eye in a freak accident during his postgame workout. A resistance band he was using snapped off its hook.
Cruz, who impressed this spring, missed some time last month with an injury.
He had posted a .326 on-base percentage and .660 OPS at Triple-A Toledo.
