Three Livingston County boys golfers make first-team all-state

For only the second time in the past 27 seasons, Livingston County has three first-team all-state boys golfers.

Brighton senior Adam Forcier, Brighton junior Grady Bissett and Hartland junior Aidan Oake made the first team in Division 1.

After the county had four first-teamers in 1997 and three in 1998, the only other time three local players made the first team was in 2023 when Brighton’s Winston Lerch made the all-division Super Team and Brighton’s Andrew Daily and Howell’s Zach Spencer made the Division 1 squad.

Forcier made the first team after receiving honorable mention last season. His 18-hole average of 73.45 is the fourth-lowest at Brighton since 2005. He had three rounds in the 60s and five under par.

Forcier was the KLAA champion, shooting par over two rounds. He was seventh at regionals with a 74 and tied for 28th at the state finals with rounds of 72 and 78.

“I can’t thank Adam enough for what he’s given the program,” Brighton coach James Dewling said. “There’s a quiet leadership about Adam. A lot of the success Brighton golf has had wouldn’t be possible without him at the top.”

Bissett was the best player during the MHSAA postseason for Brighton, tying teammate Brandon Lovejoy for medalist at regionals with a 70 and tying for fourth place at the state finals with rounds of 71 and 72. He was one shot out of first place.

Bissett averaged 74.85 for 18 holes and 71.0 for three MHSAA postseason rounds.

“His game is improving and so is his confidence,” Dewling said. “If you look back at his postseason rounds between his sophomore and junior years he’s really stepped up when the pressure is at its most.”

Oake led Hartland to a regional championship by placing fourth with a 73. He tied for 12th at the state finals with rounds of 72 and 74. He average of 36.8 per nine holes, including 18-hole rounds, broke the school record of 37.2 set by all-stater Mitchell Cotton in 2018.

He is Hartland’s first first-team all-stater since Bryce Brief in 2019.

“He really worked on consistency and understanding the game’s not perfect,” Hartland coach Nathan Oake said. “It helps him and helps the team to make any type of day that is a ‘B’ day into a ‘B-plus’ or ‘A-minus’ day. Do the best with what you’ve got that day and the conditions that day. He really made a good leap with that and it paid off for him.”

Lovejoy and Hartland senior Michael Maurin received honorable mention.

Rochester Adams freshman Ben Vento was selected as Mr. Golf.
