QUINCY, MI — Village Police Chief Dalton Turmell is looking for thieves who stole thousands of dollars of tools, tower climbing equipment, and a large roll of copper wire Sunday, July 13 from inside the village office compound.
The chief said the larceny occurred between 2:30 and 3 a.m.
“We have a still picture from a video of the suspects vehicle,” Turmell said.
He is talking to businesses and residents along the city bike path and railroad for more pictures.
Turmell thinks more than one person was involved.
“Copper is extremely heavy, and there’s no single person that’s going to take a spool of copper wire that big by themselves,” he said.
A company was working on the cell tower at the south end of the village Cole Street compound. The compound fence was cut for entry.
Turmell said the thieves came and left from the west. Police found tire tracks along the bike path.
The chief said there is more information, but “there’s no great way to say that without putting things out there that shouldn’t be out yet. This is an active, ongoing investigation, so I’m not really able to give a whole bunch of details.”
