The Woodshed, expected to serve up comfort food with a southern “flare” in Douglas, could open “very soon” — according to owner Melanie Moorer.
The restaurant, slated to open in the former Christo’s Roadhouse at 2935 Blue Star Highway, was announced on social media in April.
“We’re thrilled to share The Woodshed will be opening very soon,” Moorer, who also owns Spectators Sports Bar and Grill in Saugatuck, told The Sentinel. “We have just a few finishing touches to complete before we can welcome everyone through our doors, and we’ll announce our official opening date as soon as we are able.”
Moorer and her husband, Brad, purchased the property in 2025 — but plans to open the restaurant were put on hold after his death that August.
The name is inspired by the former Ye Olde Woodshed Bar at 107 Washington St.
“We’ll be using a smoker for a portion of our menu, adding a little fire and ‘flare’ to our southern-style comfort food,” Moorer said.
The restaurant’s employees will be dressed in country-style attire, and customers can expect a welcoming atmosphere, according to Moorer. The eatery, she added, will offer a different experience than Christo’s, Ye Olde Woodshed or Spectators.
“We truly appreciate the community’s interest, enthusiasm and patience,” she said. “We’re almost there.”
