Terrion Arnold injury update: It's actually great news for Detroit Lions starting CB

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold got good news from a second opinion on his injured shoulder.

Arnold does not need season-ending surgery for the injury he suffered in last week’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN and NFL Network both reported, and now is expected to return this season.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Arnold will “be out for a long time” with the injury but that he wasn’t sure if it would be a season-ender. NFL Network reported Arnold “likely” would miss the rest of the season early Tuesday, before offering a more encouraging update later in the day.

“God is good…” Arnold posted on X at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The Lions (4-1) visit the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) this week and host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1) on Monday Night Football in Week 7 before the bye.

They currently are down four of their top five cornerbacks with Arnold, D.J. Reed, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and Khalil Dorsey battling injuries.

Reed strained his hamstring in a Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns and is on injured reserve, but also avoided season-ending surgery. Rakestraw is out for the year with a shoulder injury, while Dorsey injured his wrist in practice last week and is out indefinitely.

Amik Robertson and Rock Ya-Sin are in line to start at cornerback this week, with Avonte Maddox playing in sub packages and practice squad cornerback Tre Flowers contributing off the bench.
