Teen arrested in Monroe following police chase

MONROE, MI — A 14-year-old was arrested after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle and leading a Monroe County deputy on a chase.

On Saturday, June 28, at 6:45 p.m., Deputy Hunter Chirillo attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan, which had been reported stolen earlier that morning. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the teen failed to pull over and instead fled eastbound on West Seventh Street into the City of Monroe.

The vehicle was briefly chased down several streets in the city before officers with the Monroe Public Safety Department deployed stop sticks. The car continued on South Custer at a slow pace before approaching the intersection of South Custer and St. James Park Avenue. The driver stopped and was taken into custody.

The teen was a runaway and related to the owner of the reported stolen vehicle, police said. The teen was arrested and lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center on fleeing and eluding, and unlawful driving away of automobile charges.
