BRONSON, MI — Caterer Tasteful Kreations reopened last week at its new location, 867 W. Chicago, ready to serve events, businesses, organizations, and the public with meals, take-out, and pre-prepared home meals.
Owner Trisha Mayer says the move marks a new chapter for the business she launched more than a decade ago, as she creates a huge new kitchen in the former Discount Food store.
“It’s still a work in progress,” Mayer said. “We just started cooking Tuesday (Jan. 13) after the health department gave us the green light.”
Tasteful Kreations started as a catering service when Mayer managed the Prairie River Golf Course. After the course closed, ongoing demand for her food led Mayer to rent space at the American Legion for six years, then open a downtown spot five years ago.
Now, the business has eight full-time employees and has expanded beyond catering to include take-home and bake meals, a service Mayer launched eight years ago to offer more convenience and creativity.
“I love food, I love people, and I love seeing the reactions when customers enjoy what we’ve made,” Mayer said. “Catering is definitely my passion, but the take-home meals took off because they make life easier for families.”
Mayer began delivering prepared meals, but when demand grew, she switched to pick up, adding two locations.
The new location continues to offer weekly pre-order menus online, with pickup available in Bronson, at Hope Café in Coldwater, and at Vander Farmers Market in Sturgis.
Tasteful Kreations also stocks a kiosk with takeout meals at the new Discount Foods, about a mile west.
Customers can expect comfort-food staples like pot roast, mac and cheese, and chicken and noodles, along with creative specials and themed menus for events.
Mayer learned to cook by watching Food Network shows when she was younger, watching her brother. She can prepare thousands of recipes, but customers favor meat and potatoes.
Looking ahead, Mayer plans to add a salad bar by spring, open an event room for up to 75 guests, and reopen the Sweet Taste Kreations coffee and ice cream shop in front with partner Ashley Ludwick.
With the addition of baker Chasely Gipson, they also plan to start serving breakfast soon.
“We’ve grown with the times,” Mayer said. “If you don’t keep pushing forward, people forget about you. I’m lucky to have a great team, and we’re excited for what’s next.”
