Fielitz stepped down Aug. 29, citing “protest and deep disappointment” with the board’s direction, a little more than a year after unseating longtime commissioner Jeff Bohm.
District 5 covers the city of St. Clair and the townships of East China, Kimball (Precincts 2, 3, 4) and St. Clair.
County officials say the response to the vacancy has been strong.
Karry Hepting, county administrator/controller, said, “The commissioners held a meeting last Friday the 12th to review the applications and discuss the process.”
The board will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, to narrow the pool of candidates and perform interviews.
Sixteen residents submitted applications, including:
Resumes and letters of interest for all 16 candidates are available on the county’s website. Commissioners could potentially appoint a replacement as soon as Sept. 18.
