Police reported 86-year-old Afred Henry Young was killed in the crash Saturday; Sunday night, they said the man’s wife, also 86, had succombed to her injuries.

Crash investigators said a 2015 Ford Fiesta driven by a 63-year-old Hazel Park man with his wife, 60, was heading northbound on Lapeer Road and for an unknown reason, left the road, drove through the median and into the southbound lane striking a 2011 Lincoln MKX head-on.

Both were hospitalized in critical condition.

Young had been driving the Lincoln. He died at a hospital Saturday.

Alcohol, drugs or speed did not appear to be factors in the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit was investigating the crash.
